LIMESTONE CO., Ala. (WAFF) – The Athens-Limestone Chamber hosted a community support breakfast on Tuesday morning.
The #ATHENSSTRONG breakfast was held to honor first responders, volunteers and community members who helped with cleanup efforts following the tornado that ripped through the town on Dec. 29.
“What better way to bring the city, [the]county, volunteers, sponsors..everyone together to make this happen so the small businesses can begin to rebuild and do what they do best: support the community in any way possible,” Athens-Limestone County Chamber of Commerce CEO and President Pammie Jimmar said.
The breakfast served as a fundraiser aimed at assisting people and businesses who suffered tornado damage.
“The proceeds will help small businesses be able to apply for up to $1,000 as a small business mini-grant,” Jimmar said.
She went on to say how she felt like the city and county workers, including volunteers and law enforcement, deserved the breakfast as they had done a lot to make sure the community was safe.
“The feeling in the room was amazing. It was a pep rally…it was a big thank you to the individuals that helped,” she said. “We wanted them to know how much this community appreciates all they have done.”
