
GAFFNEY, S.C. — The IUP women’s lacrosse team battled against nationally ranked Limestone, but their fourth quarter comeback fell short, falling 16-12 on the road.
IUP had five players score two goals each, while two others added one apiece. Kathryn Burke led the team with five points and three assists.
Limestone added two goals within the first few minutes of the first, but IUP responded at 11:30 when Boyle scored off an assist from Burke. Burke found the net again at 8:01, and five minutes later, Leah Moyer added another to bring the Hawks within three at 6-3.
Limestone extended its lead with four more goals before Whiteside scored at 9:21. Shortly after, Boyle forced a turnover which set up Burke for another goal, making it 10-5.
With 1:44 left on the clock in the second quarter, Alexi Crosby scored a goal despite being man down and was assisted by Leah Moyer.
Crosby scored her second goal around the seven minute mark in the third from a free position attempt. Limestone added three goals in this quarter, IUP headed into the fourth down 15-7.
Angela Xenakis opened the fourth with back-to-back goals. Limestone found the net at 9:00, but IUP followed with three more goals. Contributing one was Moyer and two from Emme Mass to put the Hawks within four, 16-12 with three minutes on the clock.
