Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes were up 9.4 percent in September, the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA) reports.
September limestone shipments totaled 3.8 million tons. LCA says that total was above September’s five-year average by 4.5 percent.
Shipments from U.S. quarries totaled 3.1 million tons in September – an increase of 10.6 percent from September 2023. Shipments from Canadian quarries totaled 678,580 tons for an increase of 4.2 percent versus last September.
Through nine months of the year, LCA says the Great Lakes limestone trade stands at 20.8 million tons. That total is up 1.8 percent versus a year ago.
2024 shipments from Michigan and Ohio quarries are up 2 percent on the year to 16.7 million tons. Shipments from quarries in Ontario, Canada, are up less than 1 percent over the year’s first nine months to 4.1 million tons.
