
The Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA) reports that shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes were down 3.9 percent in 2024, totaling 28.3 million tons.
The 2024 total is below the trade’s five-year average by 2.9 percent, LCA says.
2024 limestone shipments from U.S. quarries dropped 3.4 percent versus the prior year to 22.8 million tons. Shipments from U.S. quarries were below their five-year average by 2.4 percent.
2024 limestone shipments from Canadian quarries, meanwhile, totaled 5.4 million tons. That total was down 5.7 percent versus 2023. It was also 5 percent below the five-year average.
