Limestone FCU along with InvestUP launched a successful Career Pathways event on Oct. 29, 2024, at Lake Superior State University in the Art Center building with over 100 attendees. The event featured 15 career panelists, guest speakers, a business networking session, and a career resources table filled with information on jobs and internship programs.
“I am so thankful for the opportunity to attend the Career Pathways and Networking event. I was able to connect with an expert in the Nursing field and learned about a potential internship opportunity. I feel more confident and inspired as I enter the next phase of my nursing program.” -Madison LaBonte, LSSU Student – Junior Year
The initiative behind Career Pathways was to provide students with an opportunity to explore local career paths, learn from industry experts, expand their professional networks, and gain valuable insight into employer needs and internship programs. Marie Chamber of Commerce, Fred Pierce III, Dean of Enrollment Management and Communication, at Lake Superior State University, Ron Kurnik, Owner/Founder of Superior Coffee Roasting Co., Samantha Lee, Laker Success Coordinator, and former Limestone FCU Intern. The panel portion of the event touched on seven (7) programs including Business, Finance and Accounting, Education, Nursing, Fisheries and Wildlife Management, and Criminal Justice and Fire Science.
These topics featured the following businesses: Anderson, Tackman and Company, PLC, Bay Mills, City of Sault Ste. Marie, Cloverland Electric Cooperative, Chippewa, Luce, Mackinac Community Action, Fire Department of Sault Ste. Marie, Limestone Federal Credit Union, LPL Financial, Michigan State Police, MyMichigan Medical Center, Precision Edge Surgical Products, Sault Area Public Schools, Superior Health Support Systems, Rudyard Area Schools, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Career Pathways concluded with a networking event sponsored by InvestUP, providing an excellent opportunity for students and businesses to connect, ask questions, and learn how-to network effectively as they prepare for their future careers. Catering was sponsored by InvestUP and provided by The Wicked Sister and Bird’s Eye Outfitters, with drinks sponsored by U.P. Engineers and Architects.
“The goal of this event was to connect local businesses with students, providing insights into internship and career opportunities. I’m thrilled to say it was a tremendous success! We are grateful for the support from our local businesses, community members, and LSSU Charter School Office. It was inspiring to discover the wealth of internship and career prospects available for our LSSU students right here in Sault Ste. Marie. We aim to highlight these opportunities, as attracting and retaining local talent is essential for our community’s growth. A special thank you to Tony Haller from the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce for serving as our MC, to Invest U.P. for sponsoring the networking portion, to UP Engineers for sponsoring the Cheers package, and to all the wonderful businesses that contributed to this event!” -Sabrina Oshelski, Business Development Officer, Limestone FCU
